The 32nd Granite Gripper is on December 7, 2024

Granite Gripper Fact Sheet

  • This marks the 32nd Annual Granite Gripper Climbing Competition. It is the longest running trad climbing competition in North America.
  • This Granite Gripper takes place at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and all proceeds go directly to Friends of Enchanted Rock. FOER is a volunteer-based 501c3 non-profit that reinvests donations throughout the year to:
    • Preserve Enchanted Rock as a State Natural Area
    • Maintain bolts and climbing hardware
    • Construct and maintain hiking trails
    • Provide guided tours and educational signage
  • Preregistration cost is $50 for climbers over 12 years old; on-site registration at the event is $60. Youth 12 and under can preregister for $40 or $50 on-site. Camping is available for participants and guests on Friday, 12/6/2024 & Saturday, 12/7/2024 at the pavilion below Turkey Peak (not the main entrance!). Registering to compete (or volunteer) gets you free camping at the pavilion for both nights.
  • There is a day use fee required by TPWD ($8 for adults, free for 12 and younger) unless you have the Texas State Parks Pass.* Day passes can be paid for upon check in at the pavilion on Saturday morning, but if you prepay for the day passes on this registration page it speeds up the check-in on Saturday.
    • * Texas State Parks Pass gets you and everyone in your car free entry to any state park for a year! Buy it at a park or on the TPWD website.
  • Registration to compete does NOT include a meal ticket. Meal tickets are sold separately for $17 and FOER makes no profit on them. Food is catered by Rabke’s Table Ready Meats in Willow City. Meal ticket sales will stop at noon on Friday, November 29, so we can give Rabke’s a final count.
    • Meat: BBQ chicken, potato salad, pinto beans (has meat), mixed greens salad, drinks, cookies
    • Vegetarian: Tacos (black beans, corn, zucchini, onion, cilantro, spices), potato salad, mixed greens salad, drinks, cookies
  • We will offer coffee (from Third Coast Coffee), fruit, and snack bars to get you started on Saturday morning. Cash donations will be appreciated.
  • Whether you arrive on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, come to the pavilion and don’t go to the main entrance.
  • Please carpool since parking is limited at the pavilion. Fewer cars will be allowed to park at the pavilion this year as compared with past years. If the pavilion parking area is full you will need to take your car into the park. Carpool!

Route lists for Bouldering and Roped Climbing will be handed out on the morning of the event.
