Join members of the Hill Country AstronomersFriends of Enchanted Rock and park staff for a tour through space. Multiple telescopes will be set up near the comfort station for the duration of the event for viewing stars and other deep space objects.

As an International Dark Sky Park, Enchanted Rock boasts some of the darkest skies in this part of Texas, which means the stars at night ARE big and bright deep in the heart of Texas.

Schedule of events:
5:30 – arrive and get your flashlights ‘dark sky ready.’ Tents will be set up near the comfort station restroom.
6:00 – Hill Country Astronomers will have telescopes set up near the comfort station restroom.
6:30 – meet below Gazebo for group hike to the top of Enchanted Rock.

Check-in all visitors must check-in at park headquarters during office hours or at the self-pay station outside of office hours.

Location Lower Parking Lot. Parking will be in the Campground or Summit Parking Lots, follow posted signs to walk to Star Party location. Let us know if you need any special accommodations!

Bring

·        Your imagination

·        Lawn chair (optional)

·        Dress for the weather

·        Flashlight (preferably with a red lens; mainly for walk back to vehicle/campsite)

Please no white flashlights or cell phone use while at the Star Party (it can take 20-30 minutes for eyes to adjust from bright light to darkness). Red tinted lights are permitted.

Entrance fees: $8/adult; children 12 and under are free; no additional fees for this event. Entry is free with an active Texas State Parks Pass.

All programs are weather dependent — if it rains, the Summit Trail and all elevated trails and areas of the park are closed. Also, if it’s cloudy — stars will not be visible.

IMPORTANT: Reservations are required to enter the State Natural Area Friday through Monday, on holidays and/or during school breaks. You can check day pass availability online at TexasStateParks.ReserveAmerica.com.

If you are arriving before or after office hours, you will need to use the self-pay station to obtain your park entrance permit. The self-pay station is located at the front of the office and is cash (exact change), check, reservation or Texas State Parks Pass only.
